Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told Bild on Tuesday that the Colombian international had asked the club not to trigger his €42 million release clause, and the Bavarians have decided to respect that wish.
"On behalf of the club, I say thank you to James for two successful years. He has been an important part of our success over the last two seasons. We wish James all the best for the future," said Rummenigge, as quoted by the club.
James Rodriguez expressed gratitude for his time in Munich:
"I am very grateful to the club and the fans who always showed us tremendous support. It's been an unforgettable two years in Munich, and I have always felt happy here. I will treasure all the memories I have of my time here, and I wish FC Bayern all the best for the future," he said.
James Rodriguez scored 15 goals and made 20 assists in 67 appearances for Bayern München.
