Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz has made it clear that he never considered leaving BayArena this summer.

"It's logical that clubs approach you, but there was no agreement anywhere and not too much need for discussion. You hear a lot of things, and it's all about the possibilities for the next few years. But to me, it was clear that I would stay in Leverkusen for the coming year and keep all that away from me for now," Havertz said in an interview with SZ.

Havertz has been linked with some of Europe's biggest clubs while a potential transfer fee of up to €100 million has been mentioned.

Amid the rumors, Leverkusen were quick to rule out that the 20-year-old could leave the club this year, and he didn't react angrily to the club's decision.

"On the contrary, I saw it as confirmation and recognition that they were counting on me, even though such sums were in question."

But while Havertz is happy at Leverkusen right now, he won't be staying forever.

"At some point I will take the next step, that's what I want to do, of course. There's no reason to beat around the bush when it comes to that. Should that happen, nobody will be angry with me here either. You just want to make the most out of your career," Havertz said.

Havertz is under contract until 2022. So far, he has made 105 appearances for Leverkusen with 28 goals and 22 assists to his name.
