After struggling to nail down a regular starting spot in his preferred position in defensive midfield last season, Julian Weigl was subsequently linked with a summer exit.
But after ultimately staying at Borussia Dortmund, the 23-year-old has started all of the club's five games so far this season, playing in the centre of the park.
Speaking to Sky, Weigl now explains that a talk with BVB coach Lucien Favre during the club's training camp in Switzerland played a decisive role in his decision to stay put.
"I had an important talk with the coach during the training camp in Bad Ragaz when it wasn't quite clear what my future would look like yet," Weigl said and continued:
"He told me that he had seen that [Axel] Witsel and I could play well together, that I looked in good shape and would have a great chance of playing. That was very important for me to hear. Therefore, I finally decided to concentrate only on BVB."
Weigl's contract with Dortmund runs until 2021.
