Oliver Glasner reveals the secret behind Josip Brekalo's big impact at Wolfsburg
Wolfsburg coach Oliver Glasner has explained how he gets the most out of Josip Brekalo.
Josip Brekalo has been one of Wolfsburg's stand-out performers this season, scoring four goals and making three assists in six games this season.
In an interview with Kicker, Wolfsburg coach Oliver Glasner says the 21-year-old is benefitting from a new role.
"Josip is no longer playing down the line, but plays more inside. This is where his goalscoring ability, his dynamism and his strength in one-on-one situations come into their own. That was the idea," Glasner explains.
Brekalo was linked with a move away from Wolfsburg in the summer, but decided to stay after a talk with Glasner.
"I just talked to him. I explained to him how I see him and how I see his role with us. It was a very open conversation," Glasner recalls.
Around a week later, Brekalo requested to talk to his coach again.
"He said that he was having fun and that he wanted to stay here. Of course I was happy about that," Glasner says.
Wolfsburg take on Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga tonight.
