Bayern München interim coach Hansi Flick won his first game in charge following the dismissal of Niko Kovac as his team beat Olympiacos 2-0 on Wednesday to qualify for the round of 16 of the Champions League.

Speaking after the game, Flick praised his team's character to win under difficult circumstances.

"I'm very happy with the performance. The situation hasn't been easy for the team. We implemented what we worked on in training. We have a few players missing in defence with Hernández and Süle both injured and Boateng also suspended. We needed this back four to get used to each other today, which I think they did," Flick told UEFA.com and added:

"The win was important – we wanted to qualify for the last 16 today. We managed that. It was also important how we played. I told the team that everyone needed to show what they can do and give 100%.

"I think in the first half we didn't create enough clear-cut chances, so we need to try to do better there. If we can do that, I'll be very happy," he said.

Flick and Bayern have another important game coming up as they face Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
