BVB chief explains decision to let Paco Alcacer go

Borussia Dortmund let Paco Alcacer go as they have other players with similar qualities to him, says club chief Hans-Joachim Watzke.
Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has explained why the club allowed Paco Alcacer to join Villarreal in the winter transfer window.

Earlier this season, Watzke admitted that Dortmund should have brought in a striker last summer, but he is confident BVB have now got exactly the player they needed in Erling Haaland.

"All I said at the time was that we neglected the need to sign a certain type of striker in the summer. We have players with similar qualities to Paco in our squad. We needed a big, powerful and fast number nine," Watzke said, according to SID.

"We have been using two strikers in recent weeks, with Sancho and Hazard playing up top. What we were lacking before is the power that Haaland brings to the team," he added.

Alcacer scored 26 goals in 47 games for Dortmund.
