Per Skjelbred is set to depart Hertha BSC at the end of the season, the club have announced.

After spending six years at the German capital club, the Norwegian midfielder will be heading back to Rosenborg BK in his home country when his contract expires at the end of the season.

"Per has come to us with the desire to return to his home and family. Of course, in such a situation, we don't put any obstacles in the way of a deserving Hertha player. Together with Per and the team, we will now do everything we can to achieve our goals for the season in order to give him a proper farewell in the summer," said Hertha sporting director Michael Preetz in a statement.

Skjelbred, 32, has made a total of 188 appearances for Hertha with two goals and 12 assists to his name.
