Official: Heiko Herrlich named new Augsburg coach

Augsburg have appointed Heiko Herrlich as their new coach.
Heiko Herrlich has been appointed new head coach of FC Augsburg, the club have announced.

The former Bayer Leverkusen coach takes over the job after Martin Schmidt was relieved of his duties on Monday. He has put pen to paper on a deal until 2022.

"We are convinced that we have found a perfect match for FCA in Heiko Herrlich. He's an absolute expert, who knows the Bundesliga, both as a coach and from his time as a player. Therefore, we are sure that we will be back on the road to success with Heiko Herrlich," said Augsburg boss Stefan Reuter in a statement.

The 48-year-old worked as coach for Bayer Leverkusen from the summer of 2017 until December 2018.
