The visitors were off to a good start and took the lead just nine minutes into the game after Marko Grujic volleyed home Marvin Plattenhardt's corner.
Midway through the first half, RB Leipzig pulled one back through Lukas Klostermann, who scored from a corner as well.
RB Leipzig were reduced to 10 men after 63 minutes, when Marcel Hastenberg was shown a second yellow card for a foul on former RB Leipzig player Matheus Cunha.
However, that didn't stop them from taking the lead after 68 minutes, when Hertha goalkeeper Rune Jarstein failed to hold on to Patrik Schick's shot and put the ball into his own net.
But 10-man Leipzig couldn't hold on to the lead and conceded the equaliser after 82 minutes, when Krzysztof Piatek scored from the penalty spot after Ademola Lookman tripped Matheus Cunha in the penalty area.
