Official: Andreas Luthe joins Union Berlin from Augsburg

Union Berlin have completed the signing of Andreas Luthe from Augsburg.
Andreas Luthe has joined Union Berlin on a free transfer from Augsburg, the two clubs have confirmed.

The 33-year-old has completed his switch to the German capital after he was released from his contract with Augsburg, which was due to expire in 2022.

"Union are a club that I have known about for a long time and I have followed their positive development closely over the last few years. After good discussions with the club's management, it was soon clear to me that I would like to move to Berlin. I'm looking forward to the new city, the new job and the new club. Next season I would like to contribute to a successful Bundesliga season at 1. FC Union Berlin," said Luthe in a statement.

About a month ago, Rafal Gikiewcicz moved in the opposite direction, joining Augsburg as a free agent from Union Berlin.

After signing Luthe, Union might still bring in another goalkeeper, with Hamburger SV's Julian Pollersbeck understood to be the preferred candidate, but the two clubs haven't been able to agree a transfer fee yet.

Ron-Robert Zieler, who would be allowed to leave Hannover 96 for free, is considered a potential alternative.
