FC Köln midfielder Florian Kainz is set for a spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury, the club have announced.

After undergoing surgery on Friday, the 27-year-old will not be available for Austria's UEFA Nations League fixtures against Norway and Romania next month.

FC Köln haven't put a time frame on the return of Kainz, who could potentially miss his side's Bundesliga opener against Hoffenheim on 19 September.

Kainz made 29 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit last season with six goals and eight assists to his name.
