Positive COVID test delays Patrik Schick transfer

The deal to bring Patrik Schick to Germany's red company team remains a practical certainty. A positive corona test in the Czech national team nevertheless prevents Leverkusen from officially getting him over the line.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen will have to wait a little longer to complete the transfer of AS Roma striker Patrik Schick. The Czech international finds himself in quarantine instead of on the way to complete a medical in North Rhine Westphalia.

The 24-year-old attacker was scheduled to play for his country against Slovakia in Bratislava on Friday. The trip was postponed, however, after a team physiotherapist tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Sources close to the team confirm that Schick will remain isolated through the weekend at his home in the Czech Republic. Any departure from the country will be delayed until at least Monday, when he will once again be tested for COVID.

Schick’s agent nevertheless confirms that the deal to send his client to die Werkself is all but done. He is quoted by German footballing magazine Kicker as stating “We are in the final phases.” Reports indicate that the final transfer fee hovers around €25 million.
