Schalke lose Fährmann and Nastasic long-term, four more players carry light injuries

Relegation-threatened FC Schalke 04 must contest their next Bundesliga match against VfB  Stuttgart without both their first and second string keepers.

More morose injury news piles up as Shkodran Mustafi, Nabil Bentaleb, Matthew Hoppe, and Sead Kolasinac all participated in individualized training courses on Tuesday.
The word on Schalke #1 net-minder Ralf Fährmann is, as expected, fairly dour. The 36-year-old had to be subbed off against Dortmund over the weekend after suffering what appeared to be an abdominal injury. The club confirmed on Tuesday that the keeper has fractured a rib and will be out indefinitely. On Monday, the Königsblauen revealed that back-up Frederick Rønnow remains weeks away from a return with groin problems.

The club also announced that William Furtado will miss time with a non-corona-related illness. Defender Matija Nastasic also officially joins the ranks of the long-term injured reserve; on crutches after it was discovered that he sustained a hairline fracture in his foot. The severity of his injury likely leaves him out for a month or more.

The Knappen team training session featured an absurdly few amount of players on Tuesday. Shkodran Mustafi, Nabil Bentaleb, Matthew Hoppe, and Sead Kolasinac all trained individually, meaning that four more players are carrying caution-requiring injuries of some sort. Mark Uth, Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Kilian Ludewig, Salif Sané, Gonçalo Paciencia, Steven Skrzybski, Kilian Ludewig remain those for whom a return in the next two weeks remains explicitly ruled out.
