Löw closes the door to Özil comeback

Joachim Löw says a comeback to the German national team is not an option for Mesut Özil.
When Mesut Özil announced his retirement from the German national team, he left a backdoor open.

"I will no longer be playing for Germany at international level whilst I have this feeling of racism and disrespect," the Arsenal star stated, thus hinting that he could play for the German national team again if that feeling would eventually change.

However, according to German national team coach Joachim Löw, there is no chance that Özil could return to playing for 'Die Mannschaft'.

"In my opinion, Mesut Özil has clearly declared his resignation and closed the door himself. A comeback is therefore not an option at all," Löw told Sport-Bild.

At a press conference last week, Löw said that he has been trying to contact Özil following the 29-year-old's decision to resign, but he hasn't been able to reach him.

"Mesut decided on a different path. I repeatedly tried reaching him via message or phone but that was not possible. I have to accept that," Löw said.

Özil made his debut for Germany in 2009 while playing for Werder Bremen.
