Kuntz hails defensive solidity as Germany U21s book quarterfinal spot
It wasn't always pretty, but Germany's U21s got the result they needed against Romania on Tuesday.
Germany U21 coach Stefan Kuntz was delighted with his team's defensive display as they drew 0-0 with Romania to go through to the knockout stages of the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
Tuesday's result means Kuntz's troops will lock horns with either Denmark, France or Russia in the quarterfinals when the tournament continues in May.
"I'm happy for the team that they have earned another opportunity to continue to compete at this level. I believe that with the training camp ahead of us, we will continue to develop. The defense speaks for itself, in the offensive process there are still one or two things to improve," Kuntz told reporters after the 0-0 draw.
"This tournament was exhausting. A wonderful leadership team has developed over the ten days, which has sorted out team internals. The build-up play wasn't always neat, but we created a few more chances today. But we also had guys on our team, who were running on fumes."
