Havertz: 'If you lose the ball here, you will chase it for a while'

Kai Havertz, who has received his first international call-up, is impressed by the level in the national team.

After being called up for 'Die Mannschaft' for the first time, Bayer Leverkusen's 19-year-old wonderkid Kai Havertz says he is very impressed by the general level in the German national team.

"The level is really high. You can tell that from many things: passing, sharpness, change of direction, body language, dynamics, vision. If you lose the ball here, you will chase it for a while," Havertz told dfb.de and added:

"So many players in the national team have already won big titles and have a lot of experience. That's overwhelming. But it also motivates you, of course. I try to show what I can do and learn a lot."

After today's final training, German captain Manuel Neuer presented Havertz with the gold Fritz Walter Medal - an award handed out to the country's finest talent by the German Football Association - in the under-19 category.

The 19-year-old starlet said he is very proud to have been handed the award, but stressed that he couldn't have won it without the help from others.

"The Fritz Walter Medal is a special honor. I'm very happy about it. However, I don't see this as an individual award by any means: My family, coaches, teammates and my first club in Aachen have a large share in my development. Without their support, all this would not be possible."

Kai Havertz could make his international debut when Germany face Peru in a friendly tonight.
