Earlier today, it was confirmed that Julian Nagelsmann will leave RB Leipzig to succeed Hansi Flick as Bayern München coach at the end of the season.

Speaking at a press conference, the 33-year-old has now lifted the lid on how his move to Bayern came about.

"I've had some turbulent days. After the game against Hoffenheim, I had a conversation with [RB Leipzig CEO] Oliver Mintzlaff and received the first contact from Bayern. I presented my desire to switch to FC Bayern when the offer came," said Nagelsmann.

"Of course, I didn't get the go-ahead right away, and everyone thought about it afterwards. I then concentrated on the game against Stuttgart, because it was extremely important. On Sunday evening, I clarified the final details with Bayern. Yesterday, everything was sorted out.

"I'm happy, but I won't be commenting on the Bayern job for the next few games. For now, I am employed by RB, and we still have important games left to play this season."

RB Leipzig sit second in the Bundesliga table, seven points behind league leaders Bayern.
