Hansi Flick will succeed Joachim Löw as Germany coach after this summer's Euros, the German Football Association (DFB) has confirmed.

The departing Bayern München boss and former Germany assistant coach has put pen to paper on a contract until 2024.

"I am very proud that we have succeeded in signing Hansi Flick for the position as Germany coach. He was at the top of my wish list right from the start. I have known and appreciated Hansi Flick's human and professional qualities since our many successful years together with the national team," commented Germany general manager Oliver Bierhoff and added:

"During his time at Bayern München, he showed where he could lead a team as head coach. We quickly came to an agreement about working together and future tasks. It was important for me to create clarity before the start of the European Championship. We have a big common goal: to get back to the very top.

"In addition to the sporting management of the senior national team, Hansi will be involved in many other projects and initiatives of our directorates, which include all national teams, coaching education and the DFB Academy."

Flick, 56, said:

"Everything went surprisingly quickly for me with the signature, but I am very happy to be able to work as the national team coach from autumn. The season has just ended, and the two years at Bayern Munich are still having a strong impact on me. The team spirit and attitude of the players were outstanding, and I'm taking a lot with me that will continue to shape my work.

"My anticipation is huge, because I see the quality of the players, especially the young players, in Germany. Therefore, we have every reason to approach the upcoming tournaments, for example the home European Championship in 2024, with optimism. In addition, I know from my own experience that I have a strong, trustworthy partner at my side in Oliver Bierhoff, and that there are experts working behind the team, so that the team, us coaches and the staff can hit the ground running without a long start-up period. I'm also looking forward to contributing my ideas beyond the national team to the academy and the other national teams.

"What's important now, however, is not what will happen from September onward - I'll be talking about that in detail in August - but the upcoming European Championship, for which I wish Jogi Löw, Marcus Sorg, Andy Köpke and the team the greatest possible success. 'Jogi' Löw has more than earned a great conclusion to his career as national coach."

Löw was appointed Germany coach in 2006, and Flick served as his assistant for the first eight years of his tenure.

Flick joined Bayern as an assistant for Niko Kovac in the summer of 2019 and took over as head coach on an interim basis in November that same year.

The 56-year-old was later given a permanent deal until 2023 that Bayern have agreed to terminate at his own request.

Flick guided Bayern to a total of seven trophies, including two Bundesliga titles and last season's Champions League.
