FC Augsburg welcome back 'Robben'esque winger virtuoso from Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have welcomed a host of new talent in the past year or so, but now they have let go of a promising winger in Lasse Günther.

Although Lasse Günther has cited Kingsley Coman and Kylian Mbappe as his role models, he has been likened to Arjen Robben for his left-footed prowess and terrific speed, having clocked 35km/h aged only 16.

Günther is a youth academy product of FC Augsburg, who moved to Munich to develop with the FC Bayern Munich U16 setup five years ago, when he was 13.

Now, Sky Deutschland have confirmed that the 18-year-old has moved across Bavaria back to his youth club where he will continue his career for the time being.

The 2003-born winger made his professional debut with Bayern Munich II in 3.Liga last month and was pursued by Bayer Leverkusen and two other Premier League clubs.

He is a versatile attacker who is capable of functioning as a second striker and also as an inverted winger due to his great two-footed ability.

Günther is currently suffering from a torn inner ligament to the knee, with an expected return date at the end of June.

Touted to be one of Germany’s future stars, Günther has already scored 6 goals in 8 games for Germany U16 and made his U18 debut in September 2020.
