The 28-year-old Austrian joins the Spanish giants on a free transfer after he ran down his contract at Bayern Munich. He has signed a 5-year-contract and is said to be earning a reported €12.5m net annually.

Earlier this month, Alaba said to the club's official website:

"It’s always difficult when something comes to an end and it’s no secret that I’ve always really felt at home here. Obviously, I’m leaving FC Bayern with a tear in my eye but also looking forward to my future at the same time." He also said: "It wasn’t a decision against the club, but I decided I’d like to do something new and take another step forward. To grow, you have to leave your 'comfort zone' – and I deliberately put that word in quotation marks because it could possibly be misunderstood."

Alaba leaves the Bavarian giants after making the most appearances for a foreigner for Bayern with over 420 appearances, 10 Bundesliga titles, 6 DFB-Pokals, 2 Champions League crowns, and 2 Club World Cup trophies.

The Austrian defender will be officially unveiled at the Santiago Bernabeu after his involvement with Austria at the European Championships this summer.
