As reported recently, Schalke 04 turned down a monstrous 45 million bid from West Ham United for Suat Serdar in January 2020. Eighteen months later and Schalke 04 sell Serdar for just €8 million - meaning Schalke missed out on substantial profit of €37 million.

Serdar had a breakout season under David Wagner and scored 7 goals from midfield, attracting the likes of Spanish giants Atlético Madrid and English Premier League side West Ham. In the end, West Ham went for it and offered a flattering amount of money for a young, upcoming midfielder who was then bossing the middle of the park for a Champions League chasing Schalke. One season later, he could only manage two goals and was relegated with Schalke in 18th place.

Schalke, who are happy to listen for any offers, took the €8 million amid their financial problems and it may be a help towards stability for the Gelsenkirchen Club but what can't be forgotten is that Schalke could've been €45 million richer just 1 and a half years ago.
