Ismail Jakobs has explained why he pulled out of Germany's Olympics squad following his recent move from FC Köln to AS Monaco.

"I would really have liked to go," the 21-year-old told the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger.

"For Monaco, my participation was unthinkable right after the transfer, so I'm happy and sad at the same time. I wish our boys and Stefan Kuntz all the best at the Olympics," added Jakobs.

Jakobs is excited about playing under former Bayern coach Niko Kovac and feels ready for the challenge ahead.

"I'm really looking forward to working with Niko Kovac. I'll be able to learn a lot and develop further, which is why I'm taking this step. I'm not concerned."
