Kicker Report: Gladbach must execute significant sale before completing trio of incoming transfers
In a report appearing on the website of Germany's preeminent footballing publication, Kicker journalist Jan Lustig reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach currently feel the financial pinch.
It is surmised that, before any of the three main rumored deals go through, Max Eberl may need to complete a high-profile sale.
At present, there exists no shortage of names being traded in terms of arrivals at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Die Fohlen are said to have Ecuador's highest-value footballer in their sights. Additionally, the club reportedly has two French additions close to being signed. Romain Faivre of Stade Brest is reported to have already agreed to terms while negotiations continue with left-back Faitout Maouassa of Stade Rennes.

As one can easily infer, this imbalance of rumored arrivals poses a problem for the club. The trio of players carry with them a combined worth of €27.5 million; an incredibly expensive outlay for a mid-market club such as Gladbach in corona times. The financial situation obviously plays a decisive role.
Before even taking the potential purchases into consideration, it should not be forgotten that Max Eberl and the foals paid nearly €10 million for Kouadio Koné and incurred an estimated €2.5 million loss on the "transfer fees" that saw the club send trainer Marco Rose to Dortmund and pluck Adi Hütter from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Journalist Jan Lustig of German footballing magazine Kicker--a reporter with regular access to BMG sporting director Max Eberl--postulates that the club will not be able to compete any of the current negotiations without first generating some income first. In Lustig's own words: "a domino must first fall."
In terms who shall serve as this "domino", there remain several candidates. Eberl could sell national team defender Matthias Ginter for upwards of €30 million, offload midfielder Florian Neuhaus for roughly the same amount, or cash in on either Denis Zakaria or Breel Embolo.
Lustig seems to have little doubt that a "domino must fall on the exit side" before the trio of transfers can be completed.
