Freiburg confirm Santamaria departure
SC Freiburg have sold Baptiste Santamaria to Stade Rennes.
Baptiste Santamaria has left SC Freiburg to join Stade Rennes after just one season in Germany.
The 26-year-old midfielder, who was signed from SCO Angers for a club record fee of €10 million last summer, has now been sold to Rennes for a reported €14 million.
"Baptiste approached us at relatively short notice with the desire to move back to his native France with his family. After difficult overall consideration, we decided to make the transfer possible due to his personal situation and consistent financial conditions," said SC Freiburg board member Jochen Saier.
"It was clear to us that we would only agree to this transfer if we could replace the position in central midfield with an equivalent player. To this end, we are in final talks."
Santamaria featured a total of 33 times for Freiburg, scoring once and making two assists.
