BVB injury updates:
Returnees Brandt and Meunier integrated slowly, Hazard remains out for weekend

By Peter Vice   @ViceytheSS

After a corona-induced break, Julian Brandt and Thomas Meunier returned to the Dortmund training pitch on Wednesday afternoon. The decision on whether the club plans on taking the duo with them for Saturday's away will be made tomorrow.

As reported by the local paper, Ruhr Nachrichten, Thorgan Hazard remains a definite scratch. The winger will not return to training until next week.

Julian Brandt and Thomas Meunier engaged in only light individual training exercises in their first sessions back on the pitch yesterday. The two players most recently affected by COVID should partake in more integrated training today and tomorrow.

BVB boss Sebastian Kehl nevertheless told the local Ruhr Nachrichten that no decision about potentially taking either player with the team to Freiburg would be made until the squad prepares to board the bus tomorrow.

"It will be decided on Friday to what extent it makes sense to take them with us to Freiburg or have them continue to work in Dortmund," Kehl told the newspaper.

According to German footballing magazine Kicker, Meunier's case of COVID was actually a rather symptomatic one. His use is thus rather unlikely.

Both Kicker and Ruhr Nachrichten confirm that Thorgan Hazard will continue to be unavailable for the weekend league encounter. The 28-year-old has not returned to the training pitch yet and sources close to the club report that the medical staff aren't prepared to test his ankle problems until next week at the earliest.
