The final details of the agreement to send Lennart Czyborra to East Westphalia involved three footballing clubs. Czyborra's current loan club, CFC Genoa, actually purchased the former Germany U21 player for a reported €5.5 million.
He was then immediately loaned out to Bielefeld on a season-long loan. It has also been confirmed that Bielefeld have their own purchase option as part of the agreement.
"We are very pleased to have addressed a need with the loan of Lennart," DSC sporting director Samir Arabi said in a statement, "He is a young player who was groomed in Germany and already gained valuable professional experience in the Netherlands and Italy."
Head-Coach Frank Kramer praised the young Berlin native--who spent time in the Hertha, Union, and Energie Cottbus academies for his "speed, dynamism, and offensive drive."
"I've always kept one eye on the Bundesliga," Czyborra said in his own statement, "and I'm very happy to be here."
The 22-year-old's career trajectory is actually almost identical to that of his friend Robin Gosens. Both made the leap to the pros at Heracles Almelo after failing to catch on with a German club before moving to Atalanta.
Both players also have Schalke connections. Gosens was courted by die Königsblauen prior to their collapse and Cyborra's last stop in the German youth system was the Knappenschiede.
