Pal Dardai ready to step back as Hertha coach if needed
Pal Dardai has expressed willingness to leave his job as Hertha BSC coach.
Hertha BSC coach Pal Dardai has said he is ready to step back following a poor start to the season.
The ambitious capital club are rock bottom of the Bundesliga after having lost their first three league games of the season against FC Köln, Wolfsburg and Bayern München.
Saturday's 5-0 defeat at the hands of Bayern München has led to criticism from fans and from club bosses Arne Friedrich and Carsten Schmidt, with Dardai looking increasingly unlikely to stay in charge.
Should Hertha find a replacement for him, it wouldn't be a problem for the 45-year-old.
"I'm not hanging on to my seat. I'm just helping out. In the summer, it was also not completely certain that I would stay on," said Dardai, who left his job as coach of the U16 team to take over as head coach when Bruno Labbadia was sacked in January.
"Hertha BSC have probably been looking for a great coach for a long time. Pal is a small coach, a nice coach, he helps out as long as it's needed," added Dardai, referring to himself in third person.
"If a very big coach comes, Pal immediately goes back to the U16 and does his thing as before.
"I don't feel under any pressure. I don't want to be coach of a Bundesliga club and don't need a helicopter."
