Official: Union snap up Werder's Möhwald, Baumann prohibits any Friedl transfer

The deal to bring Kevin Möhwald to 1. FC Union Berlin officially went through on Monday evening. Financial details were not disclosed, but some sources report a €1 million sale.

Insofar as a potential move of defender Marco Friedl to Köpenick (or indeed anywhere else) is concerned, SV sporting director Frank Baumann expressed strict forbiddance.

Union Berlin have their sought-after additional depth at the six and eight positions with the acquisition of Bundesliga veteran Kevin Möhwald. Earlier reports suggested a transfer fee in the "low-single-digit million" range. It appears this is correct, with transfermarkt's data scouts confident enough to report a €1 million purchase.

Möhwald declared himself "delighted to be able to continue playing in the Bundesliga" in a statement on the club's website. Club personnel boss praised the player's "ability to integrate" quickly, at least partially suggesting that the front office considered him a serviceable replacement for the departed Robert Andrich.

It would appears that Werder's sell-offs for the summer transfer window are now complete. In the case of Marco Friedl, who sat out yesterday's match against Rostock in an apparent attempt to force a transfer, Hanseaten sporting director Frank Baumann has put his foot down.

Friedl had (most recently) been linked with Union. Without confirming this directly, Baumann said he had rejected an offer "from a Bundesliga club."

"There was an improved offer for Marco from a Bundesliga club, but it did not meet our minimal conditions," Baumann said on the club's website, "Marco will remain with us through the end of the transfer window. He will be fined for boycotting the match. He has accepted this. We are sure that Marco's full concentration will be on Werder again."
