Schalke confirm training audition for Amin Younes

Second division side FC Schalke 04 confirmed on Thursday that former German international Amin Younes has been training with the reserves.

Following his ignominious departure from Eintracht Frankfurt over two years ago, eight-times-capped German international Amin Younes has been playing in the Saudi League and spent a brief loan stint with FC Utrecht in Holland. Younes spent nearly a year in limbo while on loan at Eintracht. Now, without a club since Al-Ettifaq Football Club terminated his contract last summer, the 30-year-old has spent nearly a year without an employer.

German 2. Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04 confirmed on Thursday that Younes has been training with the reserves. Schalke trainer Karel Geraerts told Germany's main sporting tabloid that the 2017 Confederations Cup Winner may be potentially be signed to a contract for the upcoming season. With a market value of €600,000, Younes is one the most valuable German footballers without a club.

"I really wanted to see Amin in training myself because I heard that he trained very well with our U23s," Geraerts told the "Sport Bild" newspaper, "And I liked what I saw. Above all, I wanted to see how Amin communicates with his teammates - and that's really great."
