Uzun on being left out of Turkey's Euros squad: "I can't understand the decision"

FC Nürnberg prodigy Can Uzun is disappointed about being left out of Turkey's Euro 2024 squad and says he can't understand the decision.

Born in Regensburg, Can Uzun opted to represent Turkey rather than Germany earlier this year.

After an impressive campaign in the 2. Bundesliga, the 18-year-old was called up to Turkey's Euro 2024 preliminary squad, but was left out of the final squad.

In an Instagram post, Uzun has responded to the disappointment of being left out, saying he finds it hard to understand why he didn't get a spot in the final squad.

"Dear friends, unfortunately I was not included in the final 26-man squad yesterday. After many good discussions, I came here with completely different expectations," stated Uzun.

"I chose Turkey with all my heart and I really wanted to play for my country in my first major tournament. After a strong season and good performances, I'm very disappointed not to be in the squad.

"I can't understand this decision, but I will respect it and now prepare intensively for the next season," Uzun wrote in Turkish (via Transfermarkt).

Uzun scored 19 goals and added four assists in 32 games for Nürnberg in the 2023/24 season.
