Xhaka praises Leverkusen's defensive solidity after draw with Bayern
Bayer Leverkusen didn't see much of the ball or create many chances in their 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich on Saturday evening.
But for Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka, there were still reasons to be pleased with the performance.
"We are self-critical. It's not enough to concede three goals every game. It's very difficult to play Bayern at the Allianz Arena. We worked very well defensively. We wanted to be compact and limit their chances. Everyone knows we can do more with the ball," Xhaka said in a post-match interview.
“If someone had told us before the game that we would get a point, we would have taken it.”
Xhaka's midfield partner Robert Andrich, who scored the opener for Leverkusen, agreed.
“It definitely wasn't our best performance on the ball. We wanted to do more, but the way the game was going and the way Bayern were playing, it was OK. We only allowed them to create chances when we fell asleep.”
