After falling two goals behind early on at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach, Werder Bremen fought back to level before half-time.

However, much to the frustration of Werder's Romano Schmid, who scored his side's first goal, the visitors came out on top after the break, and the Green-Whites lost 2-4.

The defeat was particularly disappointing as Werder were coming off a strong 2-0 win over champions Bayer Leverkusen.

"What can I say? We started this home game really badly. The fact is, as I said last week, we have to attack together and be compact, and we didn't do that today like we did in Leverkusen," Schmid told Sky Germany.

“We played with a lot of power before half-time, so of course you can't start the second half like that. I can no longer explain this.

“I can't say what was different, but we weren't as disciplined defensively as we were in the last game. We know what it's all about. You can't concede three or four goals every game, excluding the Leverkusen match.”

Werder, 12th in the table, have now lost five of their last six Bundesliga games.
