Cucurella comments on controversial handball call against Germany
Spain defender Marc Cucurella has spoken out about the controversial incident against Germany where the ball hit his hand in the box and the referee didn't award a penalty.
Germany's players screamed for a penalty in extra time of their Euro 2024 quarter-final against Spain when Jamal Musiala's finish hit the arm of Spain defender Marc Cururella inside the box.
Their protests were waved away by the referee, however, and Spain eventually won the game 2-1 thanks to a late winner from Mikel Merino.
At a press conference on Sunday, Cururella gave his side of the incident, telling reporters:
“The ball hit my hand, but the referee immediately said no, no, no, and that made me feel better. If the refereeing experts say it's not a handball, then it's not a handball.”
According to Bild, UEFA explained the decision by stating that Cucurella's hand was not in an unnatural position when the shot was taken.
