“Kicker” have revealed Germany's Footballer of the year (2024/25): Florian Wirtz!
The former Leverkusen playmaker has received 191 votes and succeeds Toni Kroos, who won the award one year ago.
“I have to say that I couldn't imagine a better successor than you [Wirtz]! You are a special player on so many levels,” Kroos praised his successor Wirtz in kicker magazine.
“In my opinion, you made the right decision in transferring to Liverpool FC, which underscores your mindset and conviction.”
Wirtz won ahead of Bayern's Michael Olise (81 votes) and Stuttgart's Nick Woltemade (71 votes).
In 45 games for Leverkusen last season, Wirtz was able to contribute 16 goals and 15 assists. The 22-year-old helped Leverkusen to 2nd place in the Bundesliga, to the semi-final of the DFB-Pokal and to the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League.
German sports journalists decide and vote for their winner each year: possible winners have to be playing in the Bundesliga or be German (or both). A list of all winners since 2010 is down below.
