Borussia Mönchengladbach continued their poor start to the new year with a 3-0 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday 22. Since starting 2026 with an emphatic 4-0 victory over FC Augsburg, Gladbach are winless in the Bundesliga.

“I’m extremely disappointed because the defeat was completely avoidable,” said Eugen Polanski in his post-match interview. “In truth, everything worked out the way we’d planned. We played a good away game in both boxes. But, in the end, we didn’t reward ourselves.

“They were simply better in both penalty areas. That was preventable, and it came down to the (lack of) quality in our finishing. There was clearly more in it for us today.”

Polanski’s side will next face SC Freiburg away from home as they continue their battle to secure their Bundesliga status. Freiburg also lost by the same scoreline against Hoffenheim, but they’re unbeaten in their last 14 home matches in all competitions.
