Leverkusen boss: Boniface's availability against Brest "up in the air" after car crash

It's uncertain whether Victor Boniface will travel with his Bayer Leverkusen teammates to France for Wednesday's Champions League clash with Stade Brest.

The Nigerian international was involved in a shocking car accident on Sunday, and although he escaped with minor hand injuries and is doing well under the circumstances, it's not clear if he will play on Wednesday.

"I had a brief conversation with him yesterday, but I haven't seen him today," Bayer Leverkusen managing director for sport Simon Rolfes told Bild on Tuesday.

"He's doing well, but it's clear that such a situation is not easy and that you have to try to bear it for a while. Of course we are all very happy that he came out of this situation basically unscathed.

“We will talk to him soon and see what the situation is - whether he travels with the team or not is still up in the air at the moment.”

If Boniface misses the game, Patrik Schick could move into the starting lineup up front.
