Mainz decided to omit Sheraldo Becker from their Conference League squad as UEFA will only allow registration of three new players after the league phase stage. The Bundesliga side are automatically through to the Round of 16 after finishing seventh in the standings.
Phillip Tietz, Silas, and Stefan Posch are the new names included for the knockout stage by Urs Fischer. All those players are already well integrated into the side, while the Suriname international has only joined the club on deadline day.
The 30-year-old returned to German football with a loan deal from Osasuna. However, the two clubs agreed on an “obligation to buy” if certain conditions are met. Becker has played in all three European competitions in his successful spell at Union Berlin.
Arnaud Nordin, Ben Bobzien, and Konstantin Schopp – who all left the club on loan deals – made way for the inclusion of the three new signings. Antony Caci and Benedict Hollerbach are out of the squad as they’re on the sidelines with serious injuries.
