Former BVB great Shinji Kagawa finds new club

Former BVB great and fan favorite Shinji Kagawa has signed a contract with Sint Truidsee VV.
Shinji Kagawa (33) has signed a contract with Sint Truidsee VV, who are coached by former HSV coach German Bernd Hollerbach and are currently 13th in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League (first tier).

The 97 time Japan international, who also won the title in 12-13 during his two seasons with Manchester United, was most successful with BVB, winning the Bundesliga title in 2010-11 and the double in 2011-12 as well as the DFB Pokal in 16/17.

Kagawa, whose other stations included Besiktas, Real Zaragoza and most recently PAOK, ranks as one of the best ever signings of BVB history in terms of transfer business.

The skilled Kobe-born midfielder was signed at 21 for 'Die Schwarz-Gelben' by Jürgen Klopp from Cerezo Osaka for just €350,000 in 2010 and was sold to 'Man U' for £15m just three seasons later before returning to Dortmund for a fee believed at the time to have been €6.5m in 2014.

Kagawa was a key player in the team for BVB at the time playing alongside stalwarts like Mats Hummels, Sebastian Kehl, Roman Weidenfeller and Robert Lewandowski in his 149 matches in which he scored 49 goals most notably his brace in his first Revierderby against Schalke 04 in 2010/11.

Former Germany based players at the Belgian club, who are known by their fans as 'The Canaries', include midfielder Mory Konate (BVB II),left-back Robert Bauer (Werder Bremen) and defender Toni Leistner (Union Berlin).

The 1998 Belgian league cup winners St Truidsee, the full name of which is Koninklijke Sint-Truidense Voetbalvereniging, play their football at the 14,600 capacity Stayen ground.
