Nagelsmann provides injury updates on Goretzka and Davies

In his post match press conference following Saturday's draw with Hoffenheim, FC Bayern München head-coach Julian Nagelsmann provided injury updates on two of his long-term absentees.

While the news concerning midfielder Leon Goretzka is quite good, it looks as if versatile fullback/winger Alphonso Davies may need more time.

If all goes according to plan, Joshua Kimmich should get his regular midfield partner back by Tuesday. Bayern München trainer Julian Nagelsmann confirmed in his Saturday post-match presser that he expected the 27-year-old to return to full team training on Tuesday.

"His knee currently isn't acting up," Nagelsmann explained when asked about the German national team starter's persistent patella tendon problems, "I hope it stays that way."

Should Goretka be able to et back on the training pitch this week, he will have a full three weeks to get back into form ahead of the Champions' League quarterfinals. With respect to another player that Nagelsmann said he expected to have back in time for the quarters, however, it would appear that the news is less sanguine than the FCB head-coach initially thought.

"Phonzy [Alphonso Davies] will miss three or more likely four weeks," Nagelsmann noted, "His heart muscle inflammation is gone. The fluid from the pericardium is gone. It looks good, but we can only put very light pressure on him this week. On Friday, we need to do another MRI scan to assess the reaction."

A recovery time of another month in all likelihood ensures that Davies will not be available for the first leg of the UCL quarters, which will take place the first week in April.
