Nagelsmann praises Bayern performance despite Champions League exit

Despite crashing out of the Champions League, Julian Nagelsmann was pleased with his side's performance against Villarreal.
Bayern München coach Julian Nagelsmann has shared his thoughts on his side's 1-1 Champions League quarter-final draw with Villarreal tonight.

The German champions dominated the game, but failed to recover from Samuel Chukwueze's late counter-attacking goal, which sent Villarreal through 2-1 on aggregate.

Speaking after the game, Nagelsmann praised Bayern's performance, but conceded that his team should have scored a second goal before Villarreal's equaliser.

"The key was in the first leg. That's where we lost the tie. We didn't play well then; today we were very good. Tactically and intensity-wise, it was one of our best games in the last few months," said Nagelsmann after the final whistle.

"It's all very bitter. We had very little space, there was always a danger of getting hit on the counter, and creating many chances against such a deep defence is hard. If you don't win and get eliminated, that's just the way it is," he added.
