Augsburg starter Dorsch to miss start of the season

FC Augsburg confirmed on Sunday that projected midfield starter Niklas Dorsch had suffered a metatarsal fracture that will sideline him for the start of the season.
Augsburg's presumed midfield pairing of Germany U21 internationals Arne Maier and Niklas Dorsch will be disunited for the start of the 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign. On Sunday, the Bavarian Swabian club confirmed that the latter had suffered a metatarsal fracture during the team's most recent pre-season test match against Stade Rennes.

According to the local Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, Dorsch will be out for a minimum of four to six weeks. The nature of such an injury, as most know, can conceivably sideline a player for much longer. New FCA trainer Enrico Maaßen will certainly have to re-think the 3-4-3 he's been utilizing this preseason following the loss.

Speaking to reporters after the Saturday test-fixture, both Maaßen and the team's lead striker Florian Niederlechner directly appealed to the club's front office to procure additional bodies ahead of the new season. Niederlechner spoke on the need for an additional "one or two players" whilst Maaßen remarked that numbers in his squad were "dwindling".
