Son shines for Tottenham in win over Frankfurt

After an early Daichi Kamada goal, Eintracht Frankfurt were then forced to witness the Heung-min Son show in their 3-2 loss to Tottenham on Champions League Matchday 4.

After an uneventful 0-0 draw last time out, Frankfurt traveled to England on Wednesday, which felt nearly like a home game with thousands of Frankfurt supporters making the trip. Tottenham were especially efficient on goal in the first half and Frankfurt failed to stage a comeback after going down to 10 men in the second period.

It was a positive start in the first few minutes for Frankfurt and they eventually got a well-deserved goal after a horrific touch from Eric Dier. Sebastian Rode found Daichi Kamada in just the 14th minute to earn Frankfurt an early lead.

But in the 20th minute, against the run of play, Tottenham drew level after Heung-min Son converted Harry Kane's through-ball. The English club were then controversially awarded a penalty after Kristijan Jakic bumped Kane in the box, which the star striker of course scored in the 28th minute.

Son then secured his brace with an incredible 36th minute left-footed strike on the volley to power the ball past a helpless Kevin Trapp. The English side kept this 3-1 lead heading into halftime, as Trapp somehow stopped efforts from Son and Cristian Romero to deny Tottenham a 4th.

If it wasn't for Trapp's heroic play in goal, Tottenham easily could have added several more to the scoresheet in the second half. Things got even worse for Oliver Glaser's side when Tuta received two quick-fire yellow cards in three minutes after several poor challenges on Son.

It's fair to say that Makoto Hasebe could've easily been sent off as well with a second yellow card, but Frankfurt luckily avoided yet another blow. The Eagles at least did enough to stop Son from securing a hat trick and it can be said that Jesper Lindstrøm was probably Frankfurt's best player on the day.

Faride Alidou did score a header in the 87th minute, but the Europa League champions still felt short. Hrvoje Smolcic fouled Bryan Gil in the box in extra time, but Kane's penalty flew wildly over Trapp's head.

With Marseille's win over Sporting, Frankfurt move to last place in Group D with four points. Tottenham sit in the lead at seven points, leaving everything to play with just two matchdays remaining.

Frankfurt play at home to Leverkusen on Saturday before their DFB-Pokal match against Stuttgarter Kickers next week.
