Germany defender Antonio Rüdiger has shared his thought's on his team's painful World Cup group stage elimination.

"It's our own fault. I think the first game is chasing us right now. To put the blame on Spain is too easy. It's bitter," said the Real Madrid centre-back.

"It didn't work for us as a team. You have to be honest about that. That's something we have to work on.

"Going forward, we're doing well in parts, but at the back, our movement after losing the ball sometimes is simply not good enough."

Despite beating Costa Rica tonight, Germany finished third in their group behind Spain and Japan.
