Sommer thanks Gladbach for permitting transfer

Not having many specifics about his goalkeeping to discuss last night, new FC Bayern München net-minder Yann Sommer thanked his previous club for making his transfer possible when speaking to German broadcaster Sat.1 after yesterday's 1-1 draw with RB Leipzig.
Yann Sommer's first day in a Bayern tricot constituted something of a "light duty" shift. Apart from some easy collects and a few soft crosses, the Swiss national team net-minder didn't have much to do in last night's 1-1 draw with RB Leipzig. Sommer stood little chance on the lone goal that he conceded.

Even if there wasn't much football to discuss, German broadcaster Sat.1 eagerly wished to grab some comments from the 34-year-old one day after his sensational transfer from his long-time-club of Borussia Mönchengladbach to the German record champions was completed. Sommer's comments on the actual football played remained glib.

"The fact that everything didn't go completely smoothly was completely normal," Sommer told his interviewer, "[in terms of the last few days], it's been very hectic and intense. In the end, everyone emerged happy from this move."

Sommer specifically thanked his former club of eight-and-a-half years for allowing him to switch to the league-leaders. After days of staying away from the press, the veteran backstop looked forward to some rest, acclimatization, and an exciting new challenge ahead.

"I had an incredible time playing for Borussia Mönchengladbach," Sommer noted, "Above all, I appreciated the manner in which the club dealt with me in the past few days. I expected nothing less from them. They've always been very open and fair with me. Now it's time to look ahead."

Next up for Sommer and Bayern, it's back to the Allianz Arena on Tuesday for a home fixture against 1. FC Köln. Sommer, who knows die Geißböcke well as Gladbach's biggest regional rivals, acknowledged that he only had "a brief window" to relax before making his home debut as Bayern's new #1.
