39-year-old Hasebe extends Eintracht contract
Makoto Hasebe has signed a one-year contract extension with Eintracht Frankfurt.
39-year-old Makoto Hasebe has put pen to paper on a new one-year contract with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Should he play in the 2023/24 season, Hasebe could become the oldest player to play for the club in the Bundesliga.
Once he retires from playing, he will continue in a coaching role on a contract until 2027.
"Makoto is the only professional who can decide for himself whether to extend his contract. We are happy that he has made this decision and will remain with us as a player for another year," commented Eintracht's board member for sport, Markus Krösche, adding:
"With his attitude, his discipline and his soccer quality, he is not only an absolute role model in our team, but also continues to be an asset to our game. At almost 40 years of age, he is a Bundesliga great and an ambassador for Eintracht Frankfurt and German football beyond the country's borders."
Hasebe, who has played for the club since 2014, said:
"I am very happy that I can and will be able to play football at the highest level for another year at Eintracht. It is very special to be part of such a big and successful club at the age of 40.
"I will continue to take on responsibility, I want to be a role model for our young players and lead the way. Frankfurt has become my home, Eintracht is my club. That's why I'm already looking forward to being a part of this club after my career.
