Official: Halstenberg heads back to Hannover

Hannover 96 have completed the signing of Marcel Halstenberg from RB Leipzig.
Marcel Halstenberg has returned to his hometown club Hannover 96, moving from RB Leipzig to the 2. Bundesliga club on a permanent basis.

The 31-year-old defender has put pen to paper on a two-year contract with Hannover.

"In my case, the famous phrase is actually true: I really did sleep in 96 bedding as a little boy. I spent almost my entire youth at Hannover 96 and my family and friends are deeply rooted here. I always had a great desire to play for my hometown club again in my career. I am very happy to have this opportunity now," said Halstenberg.

"I had very good talks with Marcus Mann and Stefan Leitl. They convinced me with their ideas and showed me a sporting perspective with which I can identify very well. I would also like to thank the people in Leipzig for taking my request seriously and helping to make the transfer possible. I'm really looking forward to wearing the 96 jersey for the first time against Villarreal on Saturday."
