Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel told Kicker yesterday that the transfer probably wouldn't happen because the two clubs were too far apart on the transfer fee.
According to Bild, the clubs were €3 million apart at the time. Hoffenheim had increased their offer from €8.5 to €10 million, but Mainz held out for 13 million.
As a result, Mainz broke off the talks, but Hoffenheim have now re-established contact with Die Nullfünfer, according to the German tabloid.
