The German Football Association has found a replacement for Oliver Bierhoff, who was sacked as DFB managing director for sport after Germany's disastrous World Cup campaign.

Bierhoff's successor is former Bundesliga chief executive Andreas Rettig, who has also held managerial positions at 1. FC Köln, SC Freiburg and Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

"With Andreas Rettig, we have gained an extremely experienced, committed and assertive managing director," said DFB president Berndt Neuendorf.

"I am convinced that he will tackle the sports tasks that lie ahead of us with great passion. It takes a strong personality to handle the many administrative tasks associated with the national teams and the academy. I am therefore delighted that Andreas Rettig has decided to join the DFB."
