Demirovic and Tietz confident following another comeback: "We can hold our own against anyone."
FC Augsburg squad captain Ermedin Demirovic and his fellow goal-scorer Philipp Tietz were bursting with pride yesterday after their team managed to fight back and earn a draw for the second consecutive week.
After nearly nicking a late draw off Bayern on match-day 19 and successfully leveling the score against Bochum last week in injury time, FC Augsburg skipper Ermedin Demirovic definitely still had some adrenaline running through his veins when conducting his post-match interview yesterday. The 25-year-old's 12th league goal of the season (and fourth in the last three league fixtures) served as a crucial equalizer in a home 2-2 draw with Leipzig.
"We showed once again that we can hold our own against any team," Demirovic proudly proclaimed when speaking to the Sky mics yesterday, "We managed another comeback. That speaks volumes for the will and morale of the whole team."
Demirovic now finds himself one goal shy of the jointly held record (Michael Gregortisch in 2017/18 and Florian Niederlechner in 2019/20) for the most goals scored by an FCA player in a top-flight season. Demirovic's attacking partner Philipp Tietz - who initially put the Fuggerstädter ahead 1-0 against Marco Rose's German Red Bulls - hasn't had a bad year either. The summer transfer netted his sixth league goal of the campaign in the draw.
"It was a very good performance from us," Tietz remarked during his own turn in front of the Sky microphones, "The FC Augsburg that only chucked long upfield balls forward is a thing of the past."
