In an interview with Das Erste, Bayern Munich supervisory board member and honorary president Uli Hoeness confirmed that the German champions would like to hire Xabi Alonso as Thomas Tuchel's replacement in the summer.

However, Hoeness also admitted that it will be very difficult to lure the Spaniard away from Bayer Leverkusen.

"It will be very difficult, if not impossible. I can imagine that he stays in Leverkusen. As I got to know him, he would be more inclined to continue because he wouldn't want to leave it behind now," Hoeness said.

"He is now working for a club that is about to win the German championship. He owes a lot to this club and the club owes a lot to him. If he had two or three more years of success, it would probably be easier to get him out of there.

"We would like to sign him. But if that doesn't work out, it will be up to the club's management to look for and find alternatives."

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto Di Zerbi and Austria coach Ralf Rangnick have been mentioned as alternatives should Bayern fail to land Xabi Alonso.
